Step 1

Register marriage

Frist: 6 months to 4 weeks before · No wedding possible without registration!

Registration for marriage must be done in person at the Frankfurt registry office. Earliest 6 months before desired date.

Extended registration certificate(Required)

Apply at citizens' office Cologne – not older than 4 weeks, approx. €10

Birth certificate (recent)(Required)

Step 2

Apply for name change

After the wedding you can change your name. This must be applied for at the citizens' office.

Old ID card(Required)

Your current ID – will be collected when picking up the new one

Change tax class

After marriage you can change your tax classes. Standard: both class 4, or 3/5 combination.
